Bengaluru: A minor fire broke out at Victoria Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday after a short circuit at one of the switchboards triggered flames in the seminar hall of the burns block around 3 a.m.
In an official statement, Dr. Ramesh Krishna, Dean and Director of Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI), confirmed that 26 patients, including 5 in the ICU, were present in the affected section at the time of the incident.
“As a precautionary measure due to smoke, all patients from the burns ward were immediately shifted to H Block,” said Dr. Krishna.
Firefighters responded swiftly, and the blaze was brought under control before it could cause major damage. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported. All patients, caretakers, and medical staff are safe, according to hospital authorities.
The hospital management assured that power systems are being checked, and electrical safety measures are being reinforced to prevent recurrence.
