First Kannada science magazine completes 100 years

Bengaluru: Centenary celebrations of the first Kannada Science magazine ‘Vijnana’ is observed this year. An event has been organised in the city to mark the centenary year.

The first issue of the ‘Vijnana’ was brought out in the year 1918 and was published by the Karnataka Vijnana Pracharini Samiti. B Venkatanarayanappa and N Venkatesh Aiyyangar were the editors of this magazine. This magazine was launched with the objective of developing scientific outlook and spread knowledge of science among the general public. Even though this magazine has been shut down now, various organisations are planning to hold an event to mark the 100th year of the launch of this magazine.

BV Jagadish, Science centre of National College, Jayanagar, Ejnana trust and Udaya Bhanu Kala Sangha of Basavanagudi are organising this event. As part of the event, an interaction programme will be organised on science in Kannada.
