Fishermen warned about rain, strong winds off Karnataka coast

Bengaluru: With most places in Karnataka experiencing rain and thundershowers since Monday, fishermen have been cautioned to stay off the sea as strong winds may blow along and off the Karnataka coast, the Met Office here said.

According to weather officials, winds from the westerly direction reaching up to speeds of 45 to 55 km per hour were likely in the next 24 hours from Monday.

Bengaluru city, which recorded a rainfall of 9.7 mm on Sunday, could again see a spell or two of rain and thundershowers, the weather officials said.

Squalls gusting at speeds of 41 to 50 km from the westerly direction were recorded in the city and at HAL Airport area on Sunday.

Manki in Uttara Kannada district recorded the highest rainfall of 11 cm on Sunday while Karwar and Shirali received eight and seven cm of rainfall, respectively.

While the maximum temperature here was likely to hover around 29 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature was recorded at 19 degrees Celsius, officials added.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature here was 27.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season’s average while the minimum temperature was 19.5 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season’s average.
