The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has issued a traveller advisory for May 7, warning of possible flight cancellations and delays due to airspace restrictions following India’s military operations under Operation Sindhoor.

In a public announcement via social media and official platforms, Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) confirmed that a number of flights have already been cancelled and advised passengers to verify flight schedules with airlines before arriving at the airport.

This precaution follows increased military activity and temporary closures of several airports in northern India, after the Indian Air Force conducted targeted airstrikes on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These strikes were a retaliatory measure following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed 26 civilian lives, including Bengaluru techie Bharat Bhushan.

With airspace management under heightened security, flight paths across the country, including Bengaluru, have been disrupted. Although the Ministry of Civil Aviation has not enforced a blanket flight suspension, coordination with defence bodies is ongoing to ensure air travel safety with minimal disruption.

BIAL thanked travellers for their patience, emphasizing that the advisory aims to prevent inconvenience and maintain security standards during this sensitive period.

Simultaneously, Bengaluru is preparing for a city-wide civil defence mock drill, as directed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, to train civilians for emergency scenarios.
