Bengaluru: Five people were arrested by Tumakuru police on the charges of culpable homicide in which three students of a boarding died of food poisoning. The police have identified the deceased as Shanthamurthy, Aakansha Pallakki and Shreyas.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered district administration to submit a report on the tragic incident. “I am pained to know the news of tragic death of three students of Vidyavaridhi International Boarding School. I have directed the district administration to take a stringent action against those responsible for the death of students,’’ Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said in a release.
According to the district health officer, the condition of two people, who were admitted to hospital for food poisoning on Wednesday night, are said to be undergoing treatment. “The condition of the security guard Ravi Kiran of the boarding is critical. He is in intensive care unit (ICU). The other student Sudarshan who was admitted for food poisoning has been shifted to general ward from the ICU. We have sent the samples of food to the forensic laboratory, Bengaluru,’’ said Dr H V Ranagaswamy, District Health Officer, Tumakuru.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested four people. The police identified the arrested people as Kiran Kumar, former MLA who owns the boarding, Suhas, the in-charge of the mess, Shivanna, head cook, Rangalakshmi, assistant cook and Jagadish, an attender. “Postmortem of the deceased persons is completed. We have sent the samples to the forensic laboratory. The investigation is in progress,’’ said Isha Pant, Superintendent of Police, Tumakuru.
The police have handed over the bodies to the parents. The boarding belongs to former MLA Kiran Kumar. A case has been registered at Huliyar police station under Section 304 of IPC.
