Bengaluru: Police have succeeded in cracking the murder of middle aged woman named Vijaya Vasanth, a resident of Chamarajpet 5th cross in the city. Foster daughter accompanied by a youth were arrested by the police in connection with murder after conclusive evidence led them to the duo involved in the killing.

Vijaya Vasanath, residing alone at home was bludgeoned to death by the duo named Sonu Poojary (29) and Kumar (21) at 11.30am on March 13 using a steel hammer and a wooden log. Later, they fled the scene with gold valuables.

Police followed the leads available in the CCTV footage at the crime site and managed to apprehend the duo.

“My mother left me under the care of Vijaya Vasanth prior her death, when I turned four,” said Sonu Poojary in her narrative and added that she was sold to a brothel in Kamatipura in Mumbai by greedy Vijaya.

“I spent 8 years in ‘hell’ and killed her in an act of revenge,” confessed Sonu Poojary.

“During my stay in Mumbai, I befriended a Punjabi youth and got married to him. After spending a year in Chandigarh, we came to Bengaluru in search of livelihood. My husband disappeared in 2016 and never returned after that,” Sonu stated, explaining the events prior to the killing.

“As a paying guest, I started working at a company in Kempegowda Nagar. In deep financial crisis, I approached Vijaya for help, but she turned me away. Her spurning forced me to get rid of her. To execute the plot, I got in touch with Kumar through a manager of a paying guest accommodation, where I stayed. Kumar agreed to be my accomplice for money in return. We both forcibly intoxicated Vijaya before killing her”, said Sonu, revealing the circumstances around the killing.

Vijaya owned a beauty parlour and resided in Chamarajpet area as a tenant, for over 25 years.

Vijaya Vasanth’s friend named Lakshmi from Koratagere found the body lying on the floor during her visit, the same evening. She immediately informed the house owner, who in turn informed police. Ultimately, the CCTV footage at the crime scene helped the police in nabbing the duo, within a short time.
