A shocking incident occurred today at Bengaluru’s Jalahalli Metro Station, when a 49-year-old former Air Force personnel, Anil Pandey, leaped onto the tracks as an approaching train neared at around 10:25 am.
The quick-thinking staff at Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) immediately activated the Emergency Trip System (ETS), ensuring Pandey’s swift rescue. Fortunately, preliminary reports indicate that he did not sustain any injuries. Metro services on the Green Line resumed by 10:50 am.
During the disruption, four trains were rerouted in a short loop between Yeshwanthpur and Silk Institute, bypassing Madhavara Metro Station until normalcy was restored.
While Pandey’s exact motive for the incident remains unclear, the police have been alerted. This incident mirrors a similar event in September 2024, when a 30-year-old man also jumped onto the tracks at Jnanabharathi station, briefly halting services on the Purple Line. In both cases, the swift action of the metro staff prevented serious consequences.
