In a shocking incident that has raised concerns over law and order on Bengaluru‘s outskirts, former Karnataka MLC Dayananda Reddy was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint by unidentified men near Anekal and held captive for several hours before being released.

According to a complaint lodged with police, the incident occurred shortly after midnight when Reddy was leaving the Gold Coin Club near Heelalige. Two men on a motorcycle reportedly intercepted his vehicle under the pretext of delivering a gift box. Once the car door was opened, they allegedly brandished a firearm and forced Reddy and his driver to comply with their instructions.

Held captive for over four hours

Police said the abductors, assisted by accomplices travelling in a red car, took Reddy and his driver towards the Attibele area. The duo were allegedly confined inside the vehicle near KHB Layout from around midnight until 4.30 am.

Reddy told investigators that the kidnappers claimed they had received a ₹10 crore contract to kill him. He further alleged that the gang said they had suffered heavy financial losses and were looking for money.

Gang allegedly demanded ₹3 crore

According to Reddy, the kidnappers claimed they had gathered information about him online and believed he possessed substantial wealth due to his business interests and social activities.

The former legislator alleged that the gang demanded ₹3 crore in exchange for sparing his life. He reportedly assured them that he would arrange the money after banks opened, following which the abductors released him before dawn and allegedly provided a contact number for further communication.

Police launch manhunt

The Attibele Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Officers are examining CCTV footage from the Bommasandra-Anekal corridor and analysing mobile phone records to trace the suspects.

Investigators are also probing claims that the accused had rented accommodation near Yadavanahalli and may have been planning kidnappings targeting affluent individuals in the region.

Police have not yet confirmed whether the alleged ₹10 crore contract killing claim was genuine or merely an intimidation tactic. Further investigation is underway.
