Bengaluru: Former chief minister of Karnataka and ex-union minister S M Krishna is all set to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on March 16 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Krishna, who served as the union minister of external affairs under former prime minister Manmohan Singh, is scheduled to leave for New Delhi on March 14 and meet BJP president Amit Shah and other BJP leaders in the evening. “Krishna will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 15. He may join BJP on the same day. If does not happy on March 15, he is expected to join BJP at 11.20 am on March 16,’’ according reliable sources.
Krishna, who quit Congress on January 29 after a long association of around 50 years, has delayed joining BJP since he wanted to wait till the announcement of five state assembly elections results. With the BJP getting absolute majority in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and is set to form government in Goa and Manipur, Krishna thought it is the right time to join the BJP.
BJP sources said, top BJP leaders, including BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa and Union Ministers representing Karnataka, would also join Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, to welcome S M Krishna into the BJP.
