Bengaluru: Former minister, Ballari strongman N Thippanna has been elected as the new president of all-powerful Veerashaiva Mahasabha state unit. He was elected in the organization meeting held on Sunday.
According to the election officials, out of 16,899 registered voters, 7,966 voters cast their rights. Out of it, Thippanna received 7,707 votes while his opponent KN Puttabuddi received 242 votes. He will be the president of Mahasabha for next five years.
Thippanna’s election gained importance as he is known as a pro -BJP person. “With the election around the corner, the Mahasabha plays a crucial role in shaping the public opinion. So his election is important for us,” said a BJP leader who has participated in the election process.
