Bengaluru: A former rowdy sheeter has accused a serving police inspector of harassment and inappropriate behaviour, prompting the city police to order a preliminary inquiry into the allegations.
Complaint filed with police commissioner
The complainant, Yashaswini Gowda, also known as Yashaswini, 47, submitted a petition at the office of the Bengaluru Police Commissioner seeking action against Papanna, who is currently attached to the Konanakunte police station.
A senior police officer confirmed that the matter has been taken seriously and a preliminary inquiry has been initiated.
Inquiry assigned to ACP
According to officials, the inquiry has been handed over to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Jayanagar subdivision. The findings of the inquiry will determine whether further legal or departmental action is required.
“Based on the petition, a preliminary inquiry has been ordered. Further action, if necessary, will be taken based on the report,” a senior officer stated.
Messages and audio clips go viral
During the day, alleged text messages and audio recordings purportedly involving the complainant and the police inspector surfaced on social media platforms. The material was also widely broadcast by local television channels, intensifying public attention on the case.
Police officials have not yet confirmed the authenticity of the recordings and are expected to examine them as part of the inquiry.
Background of the complainant
Earlier this year, in February, Yashaswini was arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) under the stringent Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act in connection with a kidnapping case.
Her background as a former rowdy sheeter has added complexity to the case, though officials emphasised that the allegations will be examined independently based on available evidence.
Police maintain cautious approach
Authorities have maintained that due process will be followed and no conclusions will be drawn until the inquiry is completed. The department is expected to verify all claims, including the alleged communications, before taking any decision.
Conclusion
The allegations have triggered scrutiny within the police department, with the outcome of the preliminary inquiry likely to determine the next course of action. The case highlights the importance of accountability mechanisms within law enforcement agencies and the need for impartial investigation.
