Bengaluru: The State government will hold four-day Mathsya Mela-2017, a fisheries event, at the Kanteerava Outdoor Stadium in Bengaluru from Friday. About four lakh people are expected to participate in the event.
The mela will provide a single point access to development schemes and source of knowledge to people seeking information on fisheries — both inland and marine. The event will mark the completion of six decades of the Department of Fisheries, according to Minister for Fisheries Pramod Madhwaraj.
Karnataka’s fish production stood at four lakh tonnes and exports were worth Rs. 1,500 crore a year.
The key objective of the extravaganza is to connect industries and institutions with fishermen. The exhibition aims to provide a common platform for diversified fisheries stakeholders to establish a strategic partnership and to give impetus to technology-led fisheries development in the State, the Minister said.
The main attractions are ornamental fish gallery, ornamental fish competitions, informative theme areas, delicious food court, fish recipe competitions and fresh fish sales. Entry is free.
