Bengaluru: In a tragic incident, four friends travelling in a car died after the car plunged into the lake when the driver made an attempt to save a stray dog on the road.

The incident has been reported from Devamachonahalli lake in South Bengaluru.

According to the Tavarekere police, who registered an FIR, the deceased have been identified as Sunil Kumar (34), a resident of Subramanyanagar, Santosh (28), a resident of RT Nagar, Manjunath (35), a resident of KP Agrahara, and Raghavendra (34), a resident of Cholurupalya.

According to the police, all the deceased are friends. They were returning from Kambada Narasimha Swamy temple in Huliyuru Durga. “A group of eight friends were travelling together. Four were in another cab. Near Devamachonahalli lake, a stray dog came in front of the car in which these four were travelling.

“Sunil Kumar, who was driving the car tried to save the stray dog leading to the accident. As he lost the control on the wheels, the car plunged into the lake and since the doors were all locked, they all died inside the car. Though the friends in another cab tried to save them by pulling the car with the help of locals, it yielded no results,” said police.

Bodies will be handed over to the families after a postmortem on Monday.
