Four onion traders killed in hit-and-run at Bagalakote

Bengaluru: Four onion traders died and one was critically injured after being hit by an unidentified vehicle while changing the tyre on their lorry on National Highway-218 in Bagalakote District around midnight on Thursday June 2.

The deceased were identified as Malleshi Shankrappa Malali (42), Ramaswamy Mahadevappa Karigar (36), Razak Tamboli (54) and Nasir Mulla (42), all residents of Bilagi in Bagalkot District. Channappa Hussain Madar (36) is being treated in a hospital.

All of the victims were on their way to Bengaluru to sell onions they had produced in their fields.

Murugesh Nirani, the Minister for Large and Medium Scale Industries, who represents the Bilagi Assembly constituency, promised that he will help the families of the deceased in getting compensation from the government. Sections 279, 338, and 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Section 187 of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, have been filed by Bilagi police.

Further investigation is on.
