Bengaluru: The Fee Regulatory Committee has rejected the proposal of colleges to increase the fees of professional courses by four-times and allowed it to be increased it by 8% as per the direction of the Supreme Court, said Committee President Justice Shailendra Kumar.
“The colleges had requested to increase Engineering course fee by Rs.75,000 to Rs.4.45 lakh, dental course fees from Rs.3 lakh to Rs.19.3 lakh and for other medical courses, from Rs. 9.8 lakh to Rs.44.4 lakh. However, all demands were rejected and the fees structure of the committee will be the final,” he said.
“Whatever the agreement between the college and the government if students complain about a college collecting more than 8% fees(increase per year) legal action will be initiated. Still, 200 engineering are to give details about their fees structure,” Shailendra Kumar added.
For the first time, Fee Regulatory Committee has designed a fees structure for non-resident Indian students. They have to pay 10 times more than the fees earmarked for the local students. “There is a rule that 9 percent of the fees paid by the non-resident Indians should be kept in a separate bank account and utilized for the educational purpose of backward classes, SC and ST. Action would be taken those who violate the rules,” he reminded.
