A Bengaluru man, who began his career as a fresher at a startup, shared his frustration online after being fired in under three months. With six months of prior internship experience, he revealed that a board member informed him of his termination through a brief text message.

“Got fired today. Feeling disoriented and disheartened. Any advice?” he posted in the Reddit group “DevelopersIndia.”

He detailed that while hired as a frontend developer, he was quickly tasked with backend responsibilities, an area where he had no prior expertise. Within his first week, he was assigned a predominantly backend-focused internal project.

“I tackled some tasks but faced persistent issues, even encountering errors that resolved unexpectedly. I reported problems as instructed on Slack but often got no reply,” he said. Delays caused by lengthy review processes were blamed on him, compounding his struggles.

After 2.5 months, he received an unexpected text from a board member stating his services were no longer required. Although he tried to defend himself, the decision stood.

Seeking advice, Redditors empathized, calling out poor management. One user commented, “Don’t let this shake your confidence. Use this experience to identify red flags next time.” Another noted, “Startups often demand too much from inexperienced hires. Learn from this and move forward.”

A third shared, “I’ve been there too. It’s not about you—it’s their lack of planning. Keep learning, stay motivated, and prove them wrong.”
