Eight people were arrested after the Subramanyanagar police raided a house allegedly being used as a gambling den in Bengaluru, where they also seized nearly 19 litres of illegally stored liquor.
Police said the raid was conducted following a tip-off received on the night of June 22. Officials were informed that six to eight people were playing the popular card game Andar-Bahar inside a house located at 12th Cross in Kethamaranahalli. The information also indicated that liquor had been illegally stocked at the premises and was being served to those participating in the gambling.
Acting on the information, a police team rushed to the location and conducted a raid. Eight people found gambling inside the house were taken into custody.
Cash, playing cards and liquor seized
During the operation, officers recovered ₹62,520 in cash believed to have been used for betting, along with 52 playing cards.
Police also seized 18.91 litres of assorted liquor worth approximately ₹66,410. The confiscated stock included 10 litres of whisky, 6.02 litres of brandy, 1.5 litres of wine and 0.24 litres of vodka, which officials said had been stored illegally.
Case registered, probe continues
The Subramanyanagar police have registered a case against the accused under the provisions of the Gambling Act and the Excise Act.
Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the source of the liquor and whether the premises had been regularly used for gambling and other illegal activities.
