A couple sustained grave injuries following a massive explosion caused by an LPG leakage in the early hours of Wednesday, authorities confirmed.
The victims, Siddesh and Cilara Jacob, reside in an apartment complex near Davis Road in Fraser Town. Around 5 a.m., a deafening blast jolted the neighbourhood, prompting residents to investigate. Soon, they discovered a strong gas odour lingering in the air.
Emergency responders, including law enforcement and fire department officials, were immediately informed. The couple, suffering severe burns, was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
The force of the explosion wreaked havoc on their first-floor residence, particularly the kitchen area, while windowpanes shattered due to the impact. Firefighters and forensic teams have since begun assessing the extent of the destruction.
Preliminary investigations suggest that an undetected gas leak may have led to the blast. However, officials are conducting a thorough inquiry to confirm the exact cause.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by unnoticed gas leaks, urging residents to remain vigilant and implement safety measures.
