Bengaluru: The Government of Karnataka has released a sum of Rs 10 crores to the cyclone-hit state of Odisha.
According to an order issued by H A Shobha, undersecretary of GoK, finance department, the funds were released to Odisha which was left devastated in the wake of Cylone Fani.
It can be recalled that over 35 lakh families were affected by Cyclone Fani, which devastated the coastal state of Odisha last week. Over 15 lakh electric poles were also destroyed across the state. The cyclone struck Odisha on May 4 and 5. According to the authorities, this is the first time that the state was hit by a cyclone in the summer.
A record total of 22 lakh people were evacuated in 24 hours before the cyclone hit the state. As many as 7,000 kitchens catering to 9,000 shelters were made functional within 24 hours for the affected. Over 45,000 volunteers were part of this exercise along with the police, the Indian Army, and the Navy.
