A 32-year-old bank manager from West Bengaluru was shocked to find her gold ornaments missing from her workplace locker. The Basaveshwaranagar police suspect insider involvement and have registered a theft case, as reported by The Times of India.

The victim, a manager at a Basaveshwaranagar bank, had rented a locker at the branch to store valuables, including 250 grams of gold worth ₹20 lakh. According to her complaint, she last checked the locker in May 2024, finding everything intact. However, in October, she noticed her locker key missing and searched the bank premises without success.

In December, with the bank’s permission, the locker was broken open in the presence of staff. To her dismay, only documents were found inside; the gold was gone. She believes someone stole her key from her bag and accessed the locker with malicious intent.

The bank’s lockers require both a customer key and a master key, along with access to a grill door key stored in the bank’s cash box. A delayed complaint due to an internal inquiry and missing CCTV footage have complicated the investigation.

Police have filed a case under Section 306 of the IPC for employee theft. “We suspect insider involvement and will question employees. Filing the complaint earlier might have helped pinpoint the culprit,” said an officer. Investigations are underway to resolve the breach of trust.
