Bengaluru: Bengaluru Customs successfully prevented a gold smuggling attempt at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Devanahalli, following strategic passenger profiling. Customs officials intercepted a passenger arriving from Dubai and discovered two mercury-coated gold rods concealed inside the hollow handles of knives, along with gold paste applied to paper affixed to trays.
The officials confiscated 298.25 grams of gold from the suspect. This incident highlights the various modus operandi employed by smugglers and the vigilant efforts of authorities in detecting and preventing illegal activities at airports.
