Bengaluru: Defending the efforts of BBMP in garbage collection, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George said in Tuesday that civic agency did a good job in collecting and disposing garbage.
The minister told that the door-to-door collection of garbage would continue though the BBMP had launched a new system where large garbage bins would be placed at places where there would be a huge collection of garbage.
“We have identified two areas, which produce most garbage and in these areas the bin systems have been introduced. Twenty four bins each with a capacity of 700 kg were put up in these areas. After analysing the success of this system, we will expand in other parts of the city in a phased manner,” he said.
George who backs developing eco-friendly garbage parks said that the BBMP had identified 15 or 17 places including one site near Madhugiri in Tumakuru district and these would be finalised in 6-8 months.
He stated that setting up power plants which generate power from garbage is something the government is thinking upon. He also informed the media that as amny as 20 companies have come forward to set up garbage-based power plants.
