Mudigere: A family from Assam that came down to Hassan hoping to knit a comfortable life, earning some money by working in plantations stood disillusioned.
The family had trusted the contractor or the middleman who brought them from the hilly state of Assam to Hassan. But on reaching Hassan and toiling in a plantation at Arehalli for over a month, the contractor shunted them out saying that they are no liable to receive Rs 8,000 as promised by him earlier because he had spent that amount on their travel from Assam.
The disheartened family somehow landed in Chikkamagaluru and here in Mudigere the family gazed on passers by blankly, sitting outside a canteen on Azad Road. Their pale faces caught the attention of canteen owner, who heard their hard luck story and instantly contacted his friends.
This group of friends decided to respond to the predicament of the family and plunged into pooling money to make sure that the family went back to Assam. With Rs 7500 collected, the friends came as silver lining for the family.
Fish Venu, Canteen owner Abdul Khader, a shoe shop owner named Abdul Kareem, Dr Ummer, Ubed among other friends showed the wonderful gesture of helping the family in trouble.
