Government to decide soon on BBMP split

Bengaluru: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has ordered the officials to give an overall information on dividing the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) into five sections and implementing 3-layers of administration mechanism, within a month.

According to the sources, after discussing with the experts’ committee on the BBMP reconstruction head B S Patil, the Chief Minister gave this direction. He has ordered to bifurcate the BBMP administration without affecting the Bengaluru brand.

Committee Member Ravichandar and BBMP former commissioner Siddaiah gave brief information about the report submitted during the tenure of Siddaramaiah. Instead of one corporation, it should be divided into 5 corporations and it is better to implement 3-layer administration system. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Authority should be formed and all 5 corporations should be under the authority, came in suggestions.

The authority should be headed by the chief minister. An authority, 5 corporations and ward-level committees, this will be the 3-layer administration of the BBMP. By achieving decentralization of administration better administration is possible, the committee members explained.

The five corporations will be North, South, East, West, and Centre. People will elect the Mayor directly and he should have 5-years of power. Cadre and appointment rules, changes in the property tax collection and other issues were discussed in the meeting. The committee also met Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara to discuss the issue.
