Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch police have arrested a first division assistant of the animal husbandry department for cheating unemployed youths, by assuring that he will help them get government jobs.

The accused J Manjunath, 35, is a resident of RR Nagar.

Manjunath would get himself photographed with political leaders and use these photos to show them to unemployed youths, and boast about his political connections. He would then promise job aspirants that he will get them government jobs.

Manjunath has clicked selfies with Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, former chief minister Siddaramaiah, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and several other dignitaries during public events.

The accused has collected lakhs of rupees from the unsuspecting job aspirants and cheated them. He also claimed that he was the vice-president of the government workers’ union and that he had contacts in all departments.

Manjunath was arrested on Wednesday, December 26, after one of the victims filed a complaint against him with the Vidhana Soudha police. The city police commissioner transferred the case to CCB police.

Investigation has revealed that Manjunath was a habitual offender who has cheated several unemployed people. Another victim had also filed a complaint against him at Sheshadripuram police station, but he managed to obtain bail in that case.

Manjunath is currently in judicial custody.
