Bengaluru: Endowment Department Minister Shashikala Jolle on Thursday February 3 said that the Government is examining the proposal to free Hindu temples from State control.

A delegation of priests met the Minister Friday February 4 and submitted a memorandum urging the government to drop the idea of freeing Hindu temples.

“We are still examining on freeing temples, by assessing the situation in other states. I have also discussed with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai,” Jolle added.

On Thursday, All Karnataka Agamikara, and Upadhivantara (priests and assistant of priests) association members led by well known scholar K. S. N. Deekshit met Minister Shashikala Jolle and requested her to drop this proposal.

“Endowment Department temples own properties worth of several thousand crores, and thus privatisation of the temples will cause problem. It will pose threat to the employees also,” the delegation informed the Minister.

They listed out the problems by this privatisation proposal.

The delegation also requested the minister to cancel the retirement proposal for the priests.
