Govt sanctions Rs 5 lac relief to families of four journos who died recently

Bengaluru: The state government released Rs. 5 lakhs each to the families of four journalists who died recently.

An announcement in this regard was made by the Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.

The families of journalists Rohith BR, Gajanana Hegde, Raviraja Valalambe and D Garuda will receive Rs. 5 lakhs each.

The state Journalists’ Union had approached the CM seeking compensation for the families on the grounds that all the four were the sole bread winners of their respective families and that their untimely death has left the families in distress.

The government has responded positively.

Rohith BR, a Deputy Chief of Metro Bureau of Times of India had drowned last week.

TV news presenter and senior scribe Gajanana Hegde passed away on Febdruary 25 due to ill health.

Raviraj Valalambe was the reporter attached to ETV, covering Udupi region. He died in January, 2020 owing to health complications.

D Garud was a senior sport journalist had died in November, 2019.
