Bengaluru: For the first time, the State government will celebrate Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Jayanthi on June 27, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said here on Saturday.

Speaking with media persons, the Chief Minister said the Jayanti will be celebrated across the State at taluk and district level.

On June 27, the celebrations will be conducted in a grand manner at the Banquet Hall of the Vidhana Soudha.

Pointing out that the State Government had constituted the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Development Authority to chalk out plans for the celebrations, Siddaramaiah said the government has named the Bengaluru International Airport, Majestic bus station, and a metro station after Kempegowda. “We are now planning to name Bangalore University after Kempegowda,” he said.

Following confusion over the date of birth of Kempegowda, the State government cancelled Kempegowda Jayanti which was slated for April 17.

Head of the Adichunchanagiri Math Nirmalanandanatha Swami had suggested the government to cancel the birth anniversary celebrations following differences among scholars and historians on Kempegowda’s date of birth.
