Bengaluru: The Karnataka government aims to take steps to improve the State’s health ranking on the Niti Aayog index.

Health Minister K. Sudhakar has said on Wednesday January 26 that initiatives will be taken to address malnutrition in six districts: Bidar, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Koppal, Ballari, Vijayapura, and Dharawad.

250 model Primary Health Centres (PHC) will be upgraded to world-class standards, he said.

He inaugurated the construction of a PHC in Chikkaballapura that will cover 25,000 square feet and cost Rs. 9 crore. It will include a 24-hour health facility, 12 beds, three physicians, nurses, technicians, and Group D workers who will have quarters to live in.

According to sources, the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences has set aside Rs. 30 crore for the development of primary health care centres in Mandikal, Peresandra, and Dibburu. In Chikkaballapura, a super-specialty hospital with 700 beds will be built.

Sudhakar will also discuss with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai the possibility of establishing a district hospital in Bengaluru Rural, as well as the establishment of industries to generate employment.

The Minister further informed that Covid – 19 cases are falling in Bengaluru while increasing in other districts. Hospital admissions, on the other hand, are only around 2 per cent, and while Omicron is spreading, it is not causing severe disease. In comparison to the previous two waves, the death rate is low, and the recovery rate is increasing. More restrictions aren’t necessary because the number of cases is decreasing, he said.
