Bengaluru: As many as 19 JD(S) MLAs, led by Chamundeshwari MLA G T Devegowda, are likely to switch sides and join the BJP. Reportedly, the plan is to ensure that 3/4th of the state’s JD(S) MLAs are with GTD to avoid consequences under the anti-defection law.
“None of them are confident of getting re-elected so, they want to remain as MLAs even after joining the BJP. That is why they are consolidating their numbers,” explained a senior BJP leader.
“We are following the Andhra formula. This is the end for the JD(S), especially for the party’s first family,” he explained.
He added, “As per the proposal, over 19 JDS MLAs have already agreed to join the BJP. G T Devegowda has been asked to bring more MLAs in order to escape action under the anti-defection law. He will be rewarded with a plum portfolio.”
Meanwhile, it is said that 10 Congress MLAs have also agreed to switch sides. The discussion is reportedly in the final stages.
