H.D. Kumar Swamy Opposes Renaming Ramnagar to Bangalore South
Union Minister H.D. Kumar Swamy has strongly denounced the proposal to rename Ramnagar district as Bangalore South, stating that anyone who attempts to change it will face consequences when he returns to power in the state. He also expressed determination to reverse any name changes made during his tenure.
Pointing out the significance of the district’s name, which carries references to Rama and its rich history and mythology, he criticized those advocating for renaming it as a disservice to Ramdev.
Responding to these remarks, JDS youth unit state president Nikhil Kumaraswamy questioned Shivakumar’s actions, accusing him of diverting funds meant for Bangalore’s development. Additionally, former Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Aswatthanarayan commented that Congress’ proposed renaming was driven by appeasement politics.
The controversy arose in response to Congress’ attempt to change the name of Ramnagar district due to its association with Lord Rama—a move widely criticized by political figures and locals alike.
