Bengaluru: In a first-of-its-kind experiment in any part of the country, the Halasuru Metro station in Bengaluru will have a free food lounge. Those who can’t afford food can visit the lounge and collect free food here and those who have an excess of food can store it in a fridge placed in the lounge.
This initiative has been launched by Workbench Projects Pvt. Ltd. and Yuva Chintana Foundation.
Several hotels have already agreed to supply food to the new food lounge free of cost. Even the general public is allowed to keep food in the lounge for those in need.
According to Yuva Chetana Foundation chief Anupama, the public can also keep clothes, books and children’s playing items at the lounge.
“The lounge will open at 8 AM and shut down at 11 PM. We have approached several hotel owners for support and they have agreed to keep food items like palav, chapathi, uppittu, idli, kesaribath, vangibath, puri, etc. Occasionally, they will keep rice and sambar as well,” she said.
