CID launches manhunt for suspects in Karnataka, other states-1As per sources, the information from Santhosh Babu was not recorded, but was sought only to help the probing team in the investigation. Reportedly, Santhosh Babu told the CID DGP that before filing the FIR against Kallappa, he had informed DG&IGP Om Prakash and (West) Arun Chakravarthy.

The CID sources said that one Tejas Gowda had complained that VHP leader Praveen Khandya and gang had kidnapped him and extorted Rs 10 lac from him and further that the phone number of the person who had received the ransom was that of DySP Kallappa.

The audio clippings of the conversation Tejas’s friend Praveen and the person who received the money, which was recorded by Praveen was shared by him.

“As the official phone number was used, prima facie it became evident that Kallappa had received the money. Later, we procured Call Details Record (CDR) of the number by which Kallappa had communicated with Praveen Khandya on the same day. On July 4, a case was registered with the Basavanahalli police station and Kallapa was suspended later,” Santosh Babu is said to have told the proving team, reported The New Indian Express.
