The Karnataka High Court has orally directed the state government to submit in a sealed cover the material forming part of the proposed chargesheet in the FIR filed against Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL) and event management firm DNA Entertainment Networks Ltd in connection with the 2025 Bengaluru stampede.
The court issued the direction while hearing proceedings related to the investigation into the incident.
Probe material to be submitted confidentially
During the hearing, the High Court asked the state to place before it the documents and evidence forming part of the proposed chargesheet for its examination.
The direction was given to ensure that the court could review the material while maintaining confidentiality during the ongoing investigation.
The FIR in the case names RCSPL, which manages the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL team, along with DNA Entertainment Networks Ltd, the event management company linked to the event.
Earlier court direction on chargesheet
Last year, the High Court had issued an order directing the state authorities not to file the chargesheet immediately in the case.
The court had taken the step while examining issues related to the investigation and other legal aspects surrounding the incident.
The 2025 Bengaluru stampede had triggered widespread concern over crowd management and safety measures during large public events.
Investigation continues
Authorities are continuing the investigation into the incident, including the role of organisers and agencies responsible for crowd control.
The High Court’s latest direction is expected to assist the court in assessing the progress of the investigation and the evidence gathered so far before further legal proceedings move forward.
Further hearings in the case are likely to take place after the state submits the required materials to the court.
