Bengaluru: High Court on Tuesday has ordered a stay on any further appointments to Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC).

During the hearing in the High Court today, September 2, in W.P.No 1075/2015 Abraham T.J Vs. the State of Karnataka, in the matter concerning the need for guidelines to be formulated for the appointment of KPSC members, the Learned Advocate General admitting to the fact that there are no guidelines in Karnataka for the appointment of members, submitted that the government has written to the Union of India with regard to guidelines framed by them for appointment in UPSC and that they are yet to receive a response from them.

Taking note of the said submission, the bench of the Hon’ble High Court headed by the Chief Justice granted the state government four weeks time to ascertain the status of what the Union of India had to say in the matter.

Significantly, in a move that will have far reaching consequences on the appointments of members, to make the government of Karnataka take the subject of forming proper guidelines for the appointment of the members of KPSC seriously and to also  expedite the process, the Court directed the state government not to carry out any further appointments to the post of chairman and members of KPSC till such a time.

In the absence of senior counsel Uday Holla, his junior Rajendran argued on behalf of the petitioner.
