Bengaluru: Even though the general public and political leaders cutting across the party lines have criticized his insensitive statement against actress Sumalatha, wife of Rebel Star late MH Ambareesh, a senior party leader and minister belonging to the Congress party, PWD minister and JDS leader HD Revanna has declined to apologize.
Speaking to the reporters in Bengaluru he stated that in his entire political career he has never hurt anyone. “Why should I hurt Sumalatha?,” he questioned.
“Reporters asked my opinion about her entry to politics. Keeping in mind our religion and our culture, I have answered them. It was a natural reaction,” he justified.
“What will I gain by hurting Sumalatha,” he questioned.
Revanna, who is also the brother of CM Kumaraswamy had recently said that in Indian culture, a woman has to remain indoor for several months after death of her husband. He had asked Sumalatha if all this (her political entry) was required within few months of her husband’s death. The statement has been widely condemned.
