Bengaluru: A head constable of Bellandur police station has rescued a cab driver from being physically assaulted by five people on Outer Ring Road.
The driver had accidentally brushed his cab against another car in which the five persons were travelling.
The policeman not only intervened, but also caught the main attacker and took him to the police station.
The incident came to light when the passenger in the victim’s cab wrote about it on social media. Senior police officers, including Commissioner Praveen Sood, read the post.
On Monday, Srinivas Reddy, a software engineer, had booked a cab from Koramangala to his office in Bellandur. On Outer Ring Road, the cab driver brushed another cab, which was headed in the opposite direction. The other cab stopped immediately and five people, including the driver, alighted. They began assaulting the driver of Mr. Reddy’s cab.
Traffic came to a halt as curious onlookers surrounded the group. However, no one made an effort to rescue the man. Arif Pasha, a head constable, appeared at the spot and pushed back the attackers. He caught hold of the owner of the cab in which the attackers were travelling and took him to the police station in the same vehicle.
On reaching his office, Reddy posted an article praising Pasha for his quick action. This post was seen by the Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Police Commissioner.
A senior officer at Bellandur police station said, “He was just doing his duty like any other officer. However, we are grateful that citizens are appreciating our work and this will definitely motivate our force.”
