Bengaluru: The state health vision group, during the first meeting on Friday, discussed topics such as health screening of all citizens aged 35 and above and check for non-communicable diseases among others.
A team of 38 doctors has been asked by the state government to submit a report listing various measures to strengthen the public healthcare system, in six months.
During the meeting the group also discussed the need to set up more emergency care and trauma centres in Karnataka, improving primary health centres, encouraging public-private partnerships, and laying focus on preventive medicines.
After the meeting, state health minister Dr K Sudhakar told reporters that the government is working on a comprehensive transformation in the health sector and that the road map to achieve this was discussed.
Members of the vision group also suggested the setting up of a trauma care centre at every taluk hospital or every 50 km.
Leveraging artificial intelligence, creating civil administrative positions like Indian Medical Services and Karnataka Medical Services cadre on the lines of the IAS and KAS, adopting tele-ICU at every hospital, robotics technology, and using retired senior doctors’ services for telemedicine were some other suggestions that were made during the meeting.
It was also suggested that the Central government be requested to provide funds and human resources to develop medical infrastructure in Karnataka.
The group agreed upon using the Covid-19 prevention model as an overall surveillance system to tackle infectious diseases.
A member of the group told TOI that we should learn how measures were implemented to contain the spread of Covid-19. He added that to prevent other communicable diseases, there is a need to follow a similar strategy.
