Heavy downpour causes spate in Karnataka rivers

Bengaluru: Major rivers in Karnataka are in spate following heavy rains, officials said on Monday.

And after a wet Sunday, Bengaluru is expected to be slashed by more rains on Monday, the meteorological department said.

Monsoon showers over the last two days have led to heavy inflows into Cauvery, Tunga and Bhadra rivers, the officials said.

Heavy rains have also forced authorities to shut schools and colleges on Monday in Thirthahalli and Hosanagar towns of Shivamogga district where low-lying areas have gone under water.

Rainy weather is set to continue in Bengaluru on Monday as well, the department said.

Bengaluru city experienced light rainfall on Sunday. While the HAL Airport area got 7 mm of rainfall, the Kempegowda International Airport received 16.2 mm of rain.

The maximum temperature on Monday in Bengaluru will hover around 28 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature will be around 20 degrees Celsius, the department said.

On Sunday, Bengaluru registered a maximum temperature of 26.5 degrees Celsius, one notch below the season’s average. The minimum temperature was also a notch down at 18.8 degrees Celsius.
