Bengaluru: The heavy rains that lashed over the city on Wednesday evening left as many as 60 trees uprooted.
Among them, the highest number of trees-25 incidents have been reported from Malleshwaram alone. Hundreds of vehicles have been damaged due to the same.
According to the BBMP control room sources, as the rain started, public calls informing tree uprooting incidents started pouring in.
“The BBMP teams cleared atleast 60 trees. Several other complaints are pending,” informed an officer.
Malleshwaram is the worst hit. Near Kaadumalleshwara, 25 trees were uprooted. Many of these trees are at least hundred years old. Many local residents tweeted about the incident citing that the important landmarks of Kaadumalleshwara area have been destroyed.
Meanwhile, BBMP Mayor Gautham Kumar Jain is not found active in the rain relief works raising several questions.
It has been alleged that the Mayor and the Commissioner are involved in a cold war and as the mark of protest Jain is skipping all the events and works.
