High Court Issues Verbal Instruction to Newly Nominated Syndicate Members
Bengaluru: The High Court has issued a verbal instruction to nine newly nominated syndicate members of Bangalore universities, directing them not to act in their positions or participate in syndicate meetings.
Background
A single-judge bench, headed by Justice Hemant Chandan Gowder, heard a writ petition filed by PB Jayakrishna, K. Ramamurthy, Chikkamuniyappa of Bengaluru, and R. S. N. Prasad of Kolar, challenging the nomination notification.
During the hearing, the court expressed displeasure over the nominated syndicate members’ participation in the recent convocation of Bengaluru North University, despite earlier instructions not to act in their positions. The court verbally instructed the government lawyer to inform the syndicate members not to act in their roles.
The government lawyer requested time to submit objections and documents related to the nomination process. The court accepted the request and adjourned the hearing.
The petitioners questioned the nomination notification, arguing that the newly nominated members lacked the prescribed qualifications. They opposed the government’s decision to nominate Jayashree Hegde, M.A. Mahadeva Nayka, Ramesh Babu, Ayesha Farzana, V. Shivakumar, S. R. Sahana, Jaideep, Arbaz Pasha, and M. Gopala Gowda.
The State Higher Education Department issued a notification on August 27, 2024, listing these individuals for the posts of Syndicate Members of Bangalore, Bangalore City, and Bangalore North Universities.
