Bengaluru: JD (S) Supremo H. D. Deve Gowda said on Tuesday April 12 that CM Ibrahim will be appointed to the same rank as the party’s State President.

According to sources, Ibrahim, who left the Congress, is set to take over the affairs of the regional party on Sunday April 17.

He and Sakleshpura MLA H. K. Kumaraswamy, a Dalit who is now the State President, will share the leadership of the party.

“Ibrahim is an old acquaintance of mine. This young boy was brought to me from Bhadravathi,” said at a Janata Jaladhare function in Ramanagara, recalling Ibrahim’s previous association with the JD (S). When Gowda was Prime Minister, Ibrahim was a Union Minister.

Ibrahim’s induction into the JD (S) would take place on an auspicious day, informed Gowda.

He further said that Ibrahim’s appointment had been accepted by JD (S) Leader H. D. Kumaraswamy.

Ibrahim’s position will be equivalent to that of Kumaraswamy, he claimed. “We will appoint him as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Board. Like brothers, he and Kumaraswamy will lead the party,” Gowda explained.

Ibrahim resigned from the Congress’ primary membership on March 12. He was enraged when the Congress chose B. K. Hariprasad to be the Opposition Leader in the Legislative Council. He resigned as MLC on March 31.

The JD(S) which is aiming to become king maker in the State again in the 2023 State Assembly General Election is eyeing on minority vote bank with the help of Ibrahim.
