Bengaluru: Commuters on Outer Ring Road (ORR) were in for a surprise this Holi as the usually traffic-clogged stretch turned into an empty highway. A social media user shared a picture of the deserted road and a Google Maps snapshot with the caption, “Today’s Holi, Namma Bengaluru ORR Traffic has taken a Holi-Day.”

The post quickly went viral, with many celebrating the uncommon sight of an open road. Some wished for such a “Holi-Day” all year round, while others pointed out the significant reduction in pollution and fuel wastage.

Bengaluru’s ORR, spanning 60 km, is notorious for its severe congestion, especially during peak hours. Many believe that the upcoming Metro Blue Line could help ease traffic woes.

The city’s traffic nightmare was highlighted just a day earlier when economist and former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai shared a viral post humorously advertising a ‘4-day, 3-night Bengaluru Tourism’ package, featuring infamous bottlenecks like Silk Board Junction and Marathahalli. Calling it a “sad joke on Bengaluru,” he criticized the government’s inaction on traffic issues.

Earlier this month, another viral video showed a man navigating ORR on a unicycle, leaving many wondering if this was the future of Bengaluru commuting or just a risky stunt.
