Bengaluru: Scamsters seem to come up with new ideas to dupe gullible people in a bid to make easy money. Here in Bengaluru, a homemaker who was looking to earn some money doing a part-time job at home ended up losing a sum of Rs 59,000 before realising that she had been taken for a ride.

The victim, Saraswati, residing in Kadugodi had contacted the conman, who identified himself as Sunil Sharma to inquire about an advertisement regarding a work from home option that had featured on a national newspaper. Saraswathi was asked to pay a registration fee of Rs 1,150 to apply for the job that promised a monthly salary in the range of Rs 15,000-40,000.

After this sum was deposited in a bank account, Sunil called Saraswati to confirm its receipt and asked her to deposit further Rs 59,200 towards insurance and laptop that were to be issued in her name. An unsuspecting Saraswathi did as told and waited for her job assignment. Since there was no intimation from Sunil, she called him asking for a refund of the paid amount. He, however, asked her to further pay Rs 40,000 assuring her that he would issue a cheque of Rs one lakh.

Saraswati later approached the Kadugodi police, on Monday to register a complaint.

The police have begun investigations into the case.
