After enduring a dry spell lasting 148 days, Bengaluru may finally receive respite with predicted rainfall on Thursday and Friday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bengaluru. The forecast indicates the likelihood of light to moderate rain in Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts.
Anticipated Rainfall:
Experts suggest that Bengaluru may experience only 3-4 cm of rainfall in April, significantly lower than the city’s average of 61.7 cm for this month. While not all parts of the city are expected to receive rainfall, IMD scientists emphasize that select areas may benefit from the anticipated precipitation.
Shift in Weather Patterns:
Earlier predictions for rain by April 10 were subsequently revised to April 14 by IMD. Despite the delay in rainfall, there has been a noticeable decrease in temperature compared to the scorching conditions witnessed in the first week of April. After recording a high of 37.6 degrees Celsius on April 6, Bengaluru has experienced a gradual reduction in maximum temperature, with April 13 registering 34.6 degrees Celsius—a three-degree drop.
Current Conditions:
While there has been a slight increase in temperature over the past few days, with the city recording 35.9 degrees Celsius on April 15, the imminent rainfall offers hope for relief from the persistent dry spell and soaring temperatures.
Implications:
The prospect of rainfall brings optimism to residents of Bengaluru, offering potential relief from the prolonged dry spell and accompanying heatwave conditions. The anticipated precipitation underscores the significance of weather patterns in mitigating environmental challenges and maintaining ecological balance in urban areas.
