Authorities in Bengaluru have detained a 35-year-old man suspected of murdering his wife, with whom he engaged in a fatal altercation over his drinking habit. Nethravathi, aged 32, was reportedly strangled with a saree by her husband, Venkatesh, during the night of April 6 at their residence in Ranganathapura, according to the Kamakshipalya police.
The tragic incident came to light around 7 am on Sunday when the couple’s nine-year-old son attempted to rouse his mother but received no response. Distressed by his mother’s lack of reaction, the child began to cry loudly, alerting nearby neighbors. These neighbors, who had previously intervened during the couple’s dispute, rushed to the scene and discovered Nethravathi’s lifeless body.
Upon being informed by concerned neighbors, law enforcement promptly apprehended Venkatesh, who purportedly confessed to the crime. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with police indicating that the murder occurred around midnight after Venkatesh relocated his sleeping son to another area. In a disturbing revelation, authorities disclosed that Venkatesh, under the influence of alcohol, spent several hours beside his deceased wife’s body.
Venkatesh and Nethravathi had been married for a decade, but their relationship was reportedly marred by frequent arguments regarding Venkatesh’s drinking habits. Venkatesh was employed at a garment factory, according to a police official familiar with the case.
