Bengaluru: On Tuesday November 30, Karnataka Health Minister Dr. K. Sudhakar informed that the ICMR (Indian Council for Medical Research) report on a sample from one of the two South African returnees who tested Covid – 19 positive with symptoms “different from the Delta variant” is expected in the next two to three days.
The Minister said that the two Covid infected patients who arrived from South Africa earlier this month were asymptomatic and did not require hospitalisation, but that they were admitted to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
Speaking to mediapersons here he said that, “One of the two infected people has a different sample from the Delta variant. As a result, it was sent to the Indian Council for Medical Research. The report could take another two to three days to get.”
Sudhakar said he will discuss possible quarantine norms for those who travel from abroad and test positive for Covid – 19 ahead of a meeting with officials here. “Earlier, we allowed home quarantine for people who were asymptomatic. But now we have to revise the regulations following the discovery of a new variant,” explained Sudhakar.
He went on to say that the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) has recommended to the government a set of guidelines, which will be considered at the meeting and the results will be presented to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai for his final decision.
The Minister also stressed that the Administration has received no proposal to impose any restrictions that would hinder the State’s academic and economic activities.
