Mysuru: Come Ashada, it’s the beginning of inauspicious period for majority of Hindus. Marriages and other important family events are not held during this period, which lasts over a month. People in thousands thronged Chamundi temple atop the hill in the city to take Darshan of deity Chamundeshwari, in what happens to be the First Friday of Ashada, which is also the last day of the Month of June 30.
Devotees from all corners of the state came to Chamundi Hills on Friday where the rituals began as early as at 3.30 am and lasted for 2 hours. Special rituals of Rudrabhishek, Panchabhishekha, Lakshmi Alankara and Sahasranama were performed during the two-hour period.
People were allowed to take a first glimpse of the deity Chamundeshwari at 5.30 am and the darshan will be allowed till 9.30 pm tonight. Mahamangalarati that started at 9.30 am will go on till 8.30 pm. Abhisheka is scheduled between 6 pm and 7.30 pm.
Normally no good deeds are taken up by devotees during the month who dedicate their knowledge, energy and dynamism to the deity during the month of Ashada, said Chief Priest Shashidhar Dikshit and added worship during this period augurs well for the future.
It was no different in other parts of the state, where people formed serpentine queues in front of temples to offer prayers. Women outnumbered men and children during the day and the month is likely to impact businesses as well.
