Bengaluru: According to the Income Tax Department (IT), its raids on three businessmen in Bengaluru resulted in the seizure of Rs. 85 lakh in cash and 13.5 kg of jewellery.
The IT department has maintained that they have not raided any political persons as there were allegations by the ruling JD(S)-Congress coalition on selective raids.
The raids by the IT department in various places in Bengaluru, Goa, Hubballi and other locations have resulted in a total seizure of Rs. 3.19 cr in cash and Rs. 3.90 Cr worth gold jewellery.
In Bengaluru, IT raids were carried out on Thursday whereas the raids in Hubballi, Goa, Belgaum and Udupi were carried out on Wednesday.
According to the IT department 23 places in Bengaluru, Kolkata and Chitradurga belonging to various businessmen were raided and they have found the details of unaccounted cash and expenses made out of books and receipt of money on the sale of immovable properties.
In places like Belgavi and Chikkodi, the employers had made fixed deposits in the name of employees and parked unaccounted money.
A press release by the IT department has confirmed that they have not raided the premises of any MLA, MP or office-bearer of any political parties.
Earlier, Bengaluru central Lok Sabha constituency Congress candidate Rizwan Arshad in a press release had accused the department’s raids have crippled his campaign.
