India’s culinary landscape is embracing greener choices, with Swiggy’s latest analysis revealing that six of the top ten most-ordered dishes nationwide are vegetarian. This trend highlights favorites like Masala Dosa, Paneer Butter Masala, Margherita Pizza, and Pav Bhaji.

Bengaluru leads the charge as a vegetarian hub, where one in every three vegetarian orders originates. Local favorites such as Masala Dosa, Paneer Biryani, and Paneer Butter Masala dominate the scene. In Mumbai, Dal Khichdi, Margherita Pizza, and Pav Bhaji are top choices, while Hyderabad also favors Masala Dosa and Idli, securing its place among the top cities for vegetarian orders.

Breakfast is particularly vegetarian-friendly, with over 90% of orders in this category being plant-based. Masala Dosa, Vada, Idli, and Pongal are popular choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner alike. For snacking, Margherita Pizza is a favorite, followed by Samosa and Pav Bhaji. Even international quick-service restaurants are seeing an uptick in vegetarian orders, reflecting a growing shift toward plant-based diets.

Swiggy reports a substantial rise in vegetarian preferences with over 60,000 weekly orders for veg salads, led by Green Salad. The rise in vegan orders on Swiggy Guiltfree, up 146% last year, underscores this trend. In celebration, Swiggy has introduced the Green Dot Awards to honor the best vegetarian dishes and restaurants across 80 cities, with over 9,000 brands nominated in categories like Pure Veg Brands and Veg Biryani.
